Raw Beauty to Wearable Art: Discover the Hands Behind the Jewelry.

A stone begins as raw earth, shaped by time, pressure, and then carefully cut by a lapidary artist.

But that’s only half the story.

The real magic happens when that cabochon arrives at the jewellers bench. When it enters your imagination, meets your torch, and slowly becomes a piece of handmade jewelry that someone will treasure for years.

This February, I’m so happy to feature four artists from our jewelry makers community whose work truly honors natural stone cabochons.

Each one brings a different energy to their craft. Different textures, techniques, backgrounds and stories, each design is unique because it is handmade. Let’s take a closer look:

Silver Thistle Workshop

Artist: Aimee Sandilands
Amber pendant Carnelian heart Amber detail Turquoise pendant
Featured stones: Amber Turquoise

Rooted in Scotland and inspired by wild landscapes, Silver Thistle Workshop creates handmade silver jewelry that feels quietly powerful.

Every single piece is handcrafted by Aimee in her lovely workshop in England with the support of her beautiful dog, Maggie. She works in a collective studio space where she experiments with new shapes and techniques, allowing her instincts to guide the process while also listening closely to her community.

Her work carries a natural spirit, with organic textures and thoughtful compositions that echo rugged coastlines and rolling hills. It feels intimate and wild, as if it belongs outdoors as much as it does in a jewelry box.

At The Crafting Shoppe, simplicity is elevated to heirloom quality. Meg’s approach is refreshingly clear: thoughtful design, clean lines, and jewelry meant to be worn, not just admired. There’s an honesty to her work that aligns beautifully with materials chosen with care.

With a background in visual arts and experience across multiple creative techniques, her craftsmanship shines through in every detail. Her cabochons are centered, supported, and balanced within strong yet elegant metalwork. The beauty of her work lies in what she doesn’t overcomplicate. She trusts the material natural beauty and her talent to create pieces that truly stand apart.

Rebecca Holt Jewelry

Artist: Rebecca Holt
Handmade earrings Amber pendant Artisan bracelet Second Amber pendant
Featured stones: Amber Obsidian Quartz

Rebecca approaches cabochon jewelry like a collaboration between stone and structure. Instead of designing first and fitting a stone later, she listens to the material. The shape, the color, the “vibe” of the cabochon guides her design decisions. The result is Handmade jewelry that feels architectural yet soft. Contemporary but timeless. Her settings often move beyond traditional forms, exploring unexpected lines while maintaining balance and elegance. The metalwork supports the stone, never competes with it.

Sen Twin Designs

Artist: Sarah McCown
Opal pendant Stamped pendant Triangular ring Artisan earrings
Featured stones: Cantera Opals

Sarah works primarily with sterling silver and natural stones, incorporating stamping and layered metal techniques that add texture and strength to her designs. Her pieces have weight, not just physically, but emotionally. They feel like future heirlooms. The cabochons she chooses are framed securely and thoughtfully, designed to age beautifully alongside the wearer. This is artisan jewelry made with intention and durability in mind. And what I love most is the authenticity. Her work feels genuine. Personal. Full of story.
